Music Review 5! Persekutor-Permanent Winter

From the album cover, to the song titles, to the raspy vocals, this album answers the timeless question: what would happen if Immortal decided to calm the hell down every once in a while?

I refuse to use the word “cold” to describe anything on here, in spite of the fact that these bastards are practically daring me too (won’t do what you tol’ me, Persekutor) but rest assured everything on this beast is thematically consistent.  The grinding vocals, the buzzsaw guitar sound, the lyrics, poundy poundy drumming, and the bass just churning through the low end, like a super calm avalanche (goddamn it Persekutor).  So very much like Immortal, except the music tends to be on the low to mid pace- very few blasties, but tons of catchy riffs.  The slower speed gives everything a chance to breathe and results in a great vocal performance.  I’ve found myself actually “singing” along at times, which I never do with metal unless it’s either Dio or Cannibal Corpse. I’ll bet you three skulls that 30 seconds into track 1 your feet are gonna be headbanging away like the world’s cutest front row mosher.

So, to summarize- catchy songs, great atmosphere, awesome production . . . I love this.  Well done boys.  I hope you can come to my next ugly sweater party.
